John Drennen is reading Saints and Strangers: Being the Lives of the Pilgrim Fathers and Their Families
Great insight into tentative beginning of country at Plymouth, MA that cold November 20, 1620. Without First Peoples their ill prepared beachhead would have been littered with Pilgrim driftwood.

John Drennen is reading The Screwtape Letters (Screwtape, #1)
An interesting and difficult read from 1942 about temptation, misdirection, and the role that religion plays in moral development all from a devilish POV. Lewis ends with a toast to Aristotle’s question about democratic behavior related to concept of equality vs. behavior that promotes democracy related to concept of equal opportunity and the inherent unequal individual differences that are a natural result.

John Drennen is 10% done with A Gentleman in Moscow
Starting a little slowly. Well researched and full of clever trivia about nothing. You can tell its not written by a Russian, too happy-go-lucky, right. The aristocratic holdover is sentenced to life in the Metropol hotel; no gulag for this guy. So far no misery or turning into a bug. Tragedy to come, grey skies and scud ahead?
