Great introduction to Poker (Texas Holdem and other). I got a lot from its basic description of a poker table / tournament and the vocabulary that is used therein.

Personality disorders are not something I've read about before. I know a bit about ethics and character and brain related changes in personality. The book so far is rather interesting, delivering a brief history from character (community) to personality (individual) to disorders (dysfunction). I can't speak to the veracity of it all, but it looks solid with enough references to historical and current debates.

The concept of leisure is rather important and undervalued. The distinction between leisure as a time for quiet and introspection versus the break that is inherently defined by it's connection to work is important: you take a break in order to work more—not so with leisure time. It's probably not what the author has in mind, but I think of the cigarette break prevalent in work versus the cigar at the end of the day.

I am not going to rate this, as frankly poetry is lost on me. However, I enjoy reading this collection. Even if I don't understand what's what, I always want to read the next paragraph; the text is quite intense in a way.

Reminds me a bit if Stoner, in that it's a very ordinary, scholarly life, there's not a lot of action, just the drama of everyday life that nonetheless leaves an impact on Giebenrath's nature.

Very charming. I've often heard the Discworld series described as funny, but I find that I'm also interested in the plot. 4

I feel with the youth Hans Giebenrath. Interesting novel, if a bit heavy on descriptions at times.

I liked it at the beginning. Now it's become difficult to read and less enjoyable. I think that is due to its fragmentary nature, and I thought it would progress more into a novel with longer, cohesive chapters. It may also be because some of the discussion and subtext about the novel as such is going over my head.

The POV switches are a bit jarring. Always when it gets interesting. Which makes you want to keep reading...and maybe they are necessary to facilitate time skips...but still makes for rough reading imo.

Sometimes I like reading a normal sentence. One that simply states what is happening. This book doesn't have very many of those.

Impressive prose, thorough research, and personal to boot. Some passages are overly long, and I can only ever read a few pages at a time, and only when I'm in the mood for it.

Super interesting, and well-written, but this is a book that I can only read slowly.
The first third took me half a year to read. Small time for an olive tree. Then the story kicks off properly, and it's fantastic. A branching out and intertwining of all the characters that were introduced. As far as environmental fiction goes, this has just the right amounts of crazy in it.

Good writing.

The introduction is a 5/5. I like the style. A couple of big theories, the smaller theories, and then the arguments against them. The jokes are less awkward than in Trying not to try, and the audiobook is nice.

A good explanation of the benefits of diversity of thought. Most of the information is solid. The writing is in typical self-help fashion, anecdote interspersed with anecdote. And usually I don't mind this but here it is particularly grating: can you at least start the chapters off with your thesis? Why make us read the entire chapter beforehand?? Also, some of the examples have been used in similar books before
