I'm having feelings about the historical accuracy in the first few chapters here. Joan is being told that she is not allowed to learn how to read due to being a woman and while women at this time, particularly peasants, were not encouraged to learn to read, it was seen as not necessary rather than against God. Her father's violent dogmatic religious perspective feels much more modern. Also, why do they have books?
