I’m already taking a break from the info dumps. Marshall Blake is perilously close to bitching about political correctness with her grumpiness about new vocabulary (and from a writing perspective, I agree with her. This is real early in the story to bother with anything other than “leopard shifter”). Details about the warrant finally drove me away.

Every time I pick up this book it feels like documentary footage of my own life.

Thus far I’m not impressed. The writing is very simplistic, including dialogue and characters that do not come alive. There is a healthy structure of tropes keeping things standing, but the connective tissues around them are flimsy.

This... is not a great book. I can’t believe I’m only at 61%. Honestly, if I had anything else to read right now I’d bail.

I’m done, the foreshadowing is just too damn clunky. It was bad, it was bad, and it just got unbearable.

I found this marriage a stretch (really, *Patricia* is in charge?) and am dreading Oliver being threatened for his deafness. I’m going to take a break for a bit.

Switching gears from overwhelming odds and near death to overwhelming odds, no resources, and ...flirting? Well that doesn’t feel right.

I’m going to have to shelve this one for a bit, I have no drive to keep reading it.

Well she sexually assaulted an unconscious person, and he’s spending so much time leering and ogling I’m not a huge fan of either of them. Add to that the Stuart melodrama that I usually enjoy (but just can’t so far?) and this looks like a DNF.

I’m having a hard time staying motivated with this one. Marlie and Ewan don’t have much time together (or much to do apart) and the villains are frustratingly present. With good reason this is a claustrophobic book, but it doesn’t make for a particularly engaging read for me.

There have been a few editing mistakes that have been distracting, but my biggest issue is the pacing and emotional consistency of this book. Individual scenes are strong, but they are sandwiched between odd blanks like the characters are losing time. Lucky and James driving wine is a good example, it took me awhile to realize they were drunk.
