In this part of the book Montag has lost everything he had and is now a wanted criminal. He is a wanted criminal for having illegal books and murdering Beatty. Montag managed to escape and is now currently on the run from the police and a mechanical hound that has never let anyone get away. He looks to take refuge in the middle of the country with other people who do not agree with society. I think they will revolt.

So far the character Guy Montag has gone through some sort of mid life crisis or a turning point in his life. His whole life he has felt nothing when burning books but ever since meeting the 17 year old Clarisse things have been different. She taught him to stop, think and admire your surroundings. Now that Montag is truly thinking for the first time in his life he wonders about all the books he has burned in his life.

Sophie is very conflicted right now because she knows that her grandfather was part of the brotherhood. However her friend that she is working with to find the Holy Grail doesn't believe her. so she wants to tell proof and say she was spying on her grandfather. It says "For ten years now, simple shame had kept her from telling a soul(171). This shows that she has a choice to make; tell and be ashamed or don't tell.

So far The Da Vinci Code has been very interesting despite how challenging it is. I found myself re-reading some parts to fully understand it. In this part of the book Langdon is being "hired" by the police to look into the death of Jacques Sauniere. In the book it says "One ring... two rings... three rings... Finally the call connected(54). Excellent author's craft is shown here as it sets suspense for the reader.

In this part of the book Alex was to late and couldn't stop the Gabriel 7 from being launched into the air to explode Ark Angel. It says "A blinding light so bright that it seemed to blot out the sun, sucking the blue out of the sea and sky, turning the whole world white(271). I really like what Anthony Horowitz did here. He really made me feel like I was being affected by this explosion using lots of imagery.

Gianluca Pisacane
Gianluca Pisacane is on page 162 of 352 of Ark Angel (Alex Rider #6)
A theme in the book I have noticed is age. Most secret agents are adults while Alex is just a kid. Therefore, many times he is underestimated and sometimes doubts himself. For example he says "They were adults. Professional killers. He was a child(151). This shows how Alex doubts himself when he is put against adults. However, despite Alex being at a disadvantage he is able to beat his opponents on several occasions.

One thing I have noticed throughout the series is that Alex always meets someone and then leaves him only to find out he is a criminal. For example Alex saved Drevin's son and now he has to expose him. I guess this is called a trend. In the book it says "That night at the hospital, four men had broken in to kidnap him. They had known he was there(101).This foreshadows that Drevin had kidnapped his on son for ransom.

Gianluca Pisacane is on page 222 of 388 of Scorpia (Alex Rider #5)
A theme in Scorpia by Anthony Horowitz is taking sides. In the book it says "This is your first mission for Scorpia, and if you succeed, there will be no going back"(196). This shows that Alex is picking his side. If he wants to work for Scorpia he has to show it and he can't go back to M16. I wonder how this will effect the remainder of the book or even the series if he is working for Scorpia instead of M16.

Gianluca Pisacane is on page 141 of 388 of Scorpia (Alex Rider #5)
Author's purpose is shown when Alex tries to break into Consanto Enterprise. In the book it says "He knew that BASE jumping was one of the most dangerous of all extreme sports, and that every BASE jumper knew would know someone who had been injured or killed(96). The author most likely puts this information in to set a feeling of suspense and danger. Otherwise it wouldn't be exciting if Alex had no risk of dying.

Another theme in "Life of Pi" is survival. When the boat sank and things looked hopeless Pi never gave up. The animals also fought for survival from eating each other to fighting through pain. For example in the book it says "I was convinced the hyena was going to lunge at Orange Juice"(126). This shows that Pi doesn't want the hyena to eat Orange Juice the monkey. However, Pi can't do anything it is part of survival.

I think a theme in "Life of Pi" is god/religion. Pi has a very different take on religion then most people. He doesn't believe in just one religion he thinks as long as you have something to believe in then its alright. He accepts all religions. His father says "But he can't be a Hindu, a Christian and a Muslim. It's impossible. He must choose"(69). Since many people believe their religion is the best they hate Pi.

The mood has constantly changed throughout the book. In the beginning he was unhappy because the kids made fun of his name. (Picine sounds like pissing) Then he became happy because he changed his name to Pi and got a girlfriend. It changes several other times, but here he just lost his family and almost died.So he says "my stomach had one thing to say: Hallelujah(144)! The mood changes to hopeful because he has food.

I find this book very difficult to read. It is suppose to be a great book so I hope it lightens up a bit as the book goes on. Maybe it is just the beginning that is hard to understand because he is trying to decide what religion he should be,and what religion even means. The first sentence of the book is "My suffering left me sad and gloomy"(3). Right away the author foreshadows that something bad is going to happen.

Gianluca Pisacane is on page 211 of 281 of Monster: A Story About Crime, Justice, and Life on Trial
I think there are many themes in this book but the two that appear the most are peer pressure and racism. Peer pressure is shown when he is caught. If he didn't give in to James King then he would not have been involved with the robbery of the deli that got him in jail. "Anybody can walk into a drugstore and look around. Is that what I'm on trial for? I didn't do nothing"(115)! They accused him because he is black.

Monster is all made up of dialogue and diary entries. It reminds me of a play or script. Everything is written with the character's name and then what he/she says below that. Since it's all dialogue I can't find any descriptive language. In the book it says "I wonder if she knows what I'm really like, or if she cares"(89). Here he is talking about the judge. He is right the court system is bias depending on the judge.

A theme I have noticed in Bossypants is how stressful different jobs are. Tina Fey considers her job in the low to middle area in how stressful it is compared to other jobs.Another thing I have noticed is that when Tina Fey wants to emphasize something or make a theme clearer to the reader she makes it visual with a diagram/picture.In this case she made a bar graph showing how stressful each job is to the other(186).

Bossypants is an autobiography by Tina Fey. This writing style is unlike anything I have ever read before. I don't enjoy reading biographies and I find them boring. This is because all they do is go through everything about a person's life and it gets boring. But in an autobiography you can use I and joke about memories making it more interesting. She shows this style here "For you, I have included this joke..." (4).

The last place I read about was Machu Picchu: Fabulous Inca Citadel. I can connect to this place because last summer my friends went there and told me all about it. It says "Only from the nearby hilltop observatory of Intipunku can the visitor realize the full extent of Machu Piccu's colossal conception".(142) I remember them saying they had to hike for hours and got attitude sickness to get to this same observatory.

I'm enjoying my book because I have never read an atlas like this. The style of writing is very informational. It is just the cold hard facts like an article. It is also written like a list. It talks about each place one at a time. The place I just finished is Nasca: The patterns of Peru.It says these patterns have been "untouched since 500 BC".(100) How could these patterns not be washed out by rain, wind or people?

A theme I found is wanting things we can't have. Since the orphans are poor they think about what it's like to have money and nice things. However, they can't have things like this because they're poor and they're kids so they can't work to make money. In the book the orphans say "Us REAL orphans don't want to play with the Thief Lord anymore".(181) They say this because they're jealous that the Thief Lord has money.

The Thief Lord is a very interesting book. It is interesting because the Thief Lord is a very controversial character. You could say he is bad because he steals from the rich, but you could also say he is good because he steals stuff for the poor. This could be a theme because all of the orphans want to belong to something but they say it to the Thief Lord "You never belonged with us, even when you pretended you did".

I have a prediction about Sabina Pleasure's future relationship with Alex. I think she is going to accept the fact that Alex is a spy and team up with him. In the book Sabina says "I should have believed you"(248). She says this after they fight about Alex being a spy. I think her saying this means she accepts that he is spy. It also says in the book that Sabina is tough and can fight. If so then she could be a spy.

In the book a strange character is Damian Cray. Cray is the main villain in the book however he is not completely bad. In the book Cray is a famous pop star and is known for giving back to the people. For example he is against animal testing. But he also has a dark side inside of him because he murders anyone who goes against him. However Alex says "Damian Cray is beyond evil."(p.175)when he is put into a maze to die.

I just started this book and I already found a theme that I think will occur throughout the book. This theme is isolation/ alone. Throughout the series Alex has always had M16 to help guide him on his missions, but this time he is all alone. This mission was chosen by him and M16 doesn't want to get involved. Alex says "Take your revenge another day." which leads me to think he went on the mission for revenge.

So far the book has been very different compared to the other books. This is good because the book still has that signature writing style, while changing the plot a little to keep you engaged in the series. The first books were more about the missions specifically but this is more about Alex and what relationships he has.For example he isn't getting along with his fake undercover parents and he has a crush on a girl.

The main villain in the book is Dr. Grief, he is very full of him self and over confident. An example of this is when Alex says "He was like a poker player who had not only managed to see all of the cards but had also stolen the four aces for himself." He also spills out his whole plan to Alex because he feels like Alex is as good as dead. This shows how over confident Dr. Grief was and how it led to his down fall.
