Ok, maybe I've finally become that old lady. I don't have a single acquaintance who drops the fbomb in everyday conversation. Not a single one. Perhaps there's a good story developing here, but these wooden unrelatable characters with their limited vocabularies are just boring. Putting this one in my dnf list.

This book is starting to veer towards Harlequin. Too many unlikely scenarious. Ordinary details about the woman's actions, and the way her life unfolds after the initial tragedy, are just not believable.

Stretching credulity is not a good way I keep an audience. I'm sure that a tall dark stranger who she will immediately dislike is just around the corner. Harlequin. Think I'll give up on this one.

Half way through the book, but only on day 26 of the six month break, and I understand why Hugh wanted the break. He had to get away from this shallow, needy woman and her insufferable self pity and never ending navel gazing.

Lucky me, I'm not Hugh. I can walk away permanently

Too many good books out there to waste any more time on this drivel.

Dear gods, so many words to say one thing. Three paragraphs to say "April was a good actress". Three paragraphs, and it isn't even pertinent to the story

So far, there's an awful lot of navel gazing and very little story. This may end up in the "gave up" pile

There is something repugnant in using the Montreal massacre to sell a book

Does this book have a plot? I think the author searched Pinterest for "best chapter endings' and then wrote a book with a huge number of small chapters, all seemingly ending in suspense. And of course let's not give the chapters numbers - so much more entertaining to pick it up and scroll through page after page if the same gibberish trying to get to where aI left off. Tedious, unimaginative, and frankly boring

Quotation marks are a useful literary tool. It's presumptuous for an author if this caliber to choose not to use them

If 0she couldn't use "fuck", would this writer actually have to learn a few adjectives and adverbs? Will a plot ever surface, or is navel gazing the only story line?

Are we really expected to believe a character whose adult hostility towards his parent is anchored in such weak slush? No 9 year old thinks the way this one did, and no adult clutches to it to store his anger. It just doesn't happen. This story line ruined the book for me.

I'm a quarter way through this book, and the mystery about what happened in the past to a lead character is wearing more than a little thin. I'll give it about 20 more pages, then toss this on the gave up pile

Self absorbed twenty something, with a wooden personality that never should have made it past first draft, allows her family to commit her to a rehab centre, and it takes her 22 chapters - yes, 22 - to figure out it is not fancy resort catering to the rich and famous, And I'm still waiting for even a single funny sentence

The book is set during an eventful period in American history but the main character's life, as depicted in the novel, is so dull that it doesn't support a book. I will probably add this to 'gave up" shelf
