Shelved this book. Was halfway through and set it aside. Not that it wasn't good - I shall return to it at another time - but my appetite was craving other forms.

A few stories when I have a moment to read and to ponder. Excellent writing, provocative stories.

Elizabeth is on page 47 of 224 of The Emotional Craft of Fiction: How to Write the Story Beneath the Surface
Slow and steady progress as I work my way through each exercise with a small group of writers on-line. The benefit, to date, has been immeasurable!

Elizabeth is on page 25 of 512 of A Passionate Apprentice: The Early Journals, 1897-1909
This book is next to the bath in my summer bedroom; I enjoy reading bits when I have time for a long, relaxing soak. As showering occurs more often than bathing at this point in my life, it may take as many years to read Virginia's words as it took to write them; somehow this seems apropos.

Elizabeth is finished with The Portrait of a Lady
Had to return the library book so I purchased a a gently used hardcover: "Henry James, Five Novels, Complete and Unabridged." A 2006 Barnes & Noble Library of Essential Writers publication. Very happy with this. Novels are:Daisy Miller; Washington Square; The Portrait of a Lady; The Turn of the Screw; The Wings of the Dove. Great companion book for my "Wharton, Novellas & Other Writings," purchased at The Mount.

Elizabeth is starting Mrs. Dalloway
This is my third time attempting to read Mrs. Dalloway, and I just cannot do it. The complex sentences, stream-of-consciousness are just not my style. Going back on the shelf.

Elizabeth is starting A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
I struggled at times, the rants against religion toward the end were a little trying. I also found "stream of consciousness" a bit confusing on a number of occasions (when I was quite tired) as I am not as familiar with Irish culture and history as I'd like to be. The book was an innovative masterpiece. I learned much about style and language, and will be reading more Joyce.
