This was a wild ride with mistaken identity, fraud, espionage, attempted murder, and romance. It was certainly something different.

The wreck of the Golden Mary 3/5
A very sad tale of a group of survivors of a ship wreck. I almost cried at one point in this story.

Mugby Junction 3/5
This story follows a man who gets off a train at Mugby junction and gets to know some of the people in the town as he decides where to go, it also includes some side stories about different characters in the town. This story was okay and did have some interesting moments

Doctor Marigold 4/5
this is a cute story about a traveling salesman who adopts a deaf and mute child after his own daughter passes away. This was so cute and adorable and Doctor Marigold does everything he can to give this girl the best chance at succeeding. there was a weird story in the middle about a member of a jury that was haunted by a murder victim during his trial.

Mrs. Lirriper's legacy 4/5
this is a continuation of the last story and follows the same characters. It answers some questions that were left by the first one and is still a very sweet story.

Mrs. Lirriper's Lodgings 4/5
This was a sweet story about the lodgers that Mrs. Lirriper has in her house and transitions into a story about Mrs. Lirriper and a lodger raising a small boy after his mother passed away. Very sweet and sentimental.

going into society 3/5
this is about a dwarf who worked at a circus that wanted to be part of society but when he becomes part of it he finds it's got different rules than before. this was rather a sad tale about being careful what you wish for.

The holly tree 3/5
A man arrives at an inn and spends Christmas thinking of all the inns he has ever known, listening to a story about 2 runaway children wanting to get married, and then realizes he's made a mistake. this one was okay I liked it but I felt the transitions didn't really flow smoothly, it was easy to forget the parts of the story were connected.

The seven poor travellers 3/5
A story within a story. It starts off sworn a man having a Christmas dinner with six poor travellers, he then tells a story to them about a soldier who wanted to die but then became friends with another soldier. This story was okay but I didn’t find it overly interesting.

Nobody's story 4/5
this one was about a poor man as he explores how the rich claim to help but only argue about how. When a plague came and killed many the plague was blamed on the poor while the rich did nothing (it felt rather relevant given recent events)

The schoolboy's story 2.5/5
This story is about a group of schoolboys who bullied someone badly and then were forgiven and it changed how they saw the bully victim. I didn't really like the message of this one too much

a beautiful story about how our perceptions of Christmas change as we grow older and our paths in life change. It is also about taking Christmas to make room for cherishing our loved ones.

man recounts the toys and joys from his childhood Christmases. I really liked all the Christmas imagery in this story it was really beautiful to read although the spot where it transitions into ghost stories was a bit weird although I think that might be because I am missing some historical context.

The story of the goblins who stole a sexton 4/5
grumpy grave digger gets ambushed by goblins and shown the beauty of humanity. This one was fun, I like it.

A man gets cursed by a spirit to make everyone near him miserable. This one was okay but kinda a weird story

The battle of life 3.5/5
A moving story about love, loss and sacrifice for family. It was rather sweet and didn’t go the way I expected it to

The cricket on the hearth 4/5
This was a rather wholesome domestic story about a few families and their affairs. I found it rather sweet

The chimes 3/5
This one was quite sad as we followed a father who had died as he watched the tragedies of his daughter after his death. It ended on a hopeful note but the story was rather sad.

The Christmas carol 4/5
I already knew the story but I had never read it before, I found myself enchanted by the story showing the simple magic of Christmas. It was interesting to see how receptive Scrooge was to the ghosts' lessons and willing to change. The writing style unfortunately is showing the era it was written in and multiple times I found myself rereading sentences trying to understand what it was saying.
