It feels like I'm reading an Anne Rice book. A compliment to some, but not so much to me. Yet another great writer who gets lost in their poetic prose and forgets to move forward with the story. I have to DNF this one, though Anne Rice fans may still want to try. Just know Hinkley is more unashamedly brash and vulgar sometimes, adding more horror to the gothic fiction. Some shock value.

There's a long list of reasons why I'm DNFing this one. I tried to tolerate them, but it just kept stacking. The writing is simple, but that's fine, I don't mind that. Though it could have used more polishing. What I didn't care for is how the women were written. I also didn't care for one of the detective's getting into a huge fight with one of the cops every single time they interacted. I'm no longer interested.

This is a very masculine focused thriller, but I'm intrigued enough with the mystery to continue forward. Unless I get tired of the 'blah, blah, blah' joke every time they list this main female character's accomplishments as a mathematician. That's coming off as very misogynistic....

Another ARC I'll be DNFing. It was trying too hard to be satire, Juniper was insufferable, and there was a lot of contradictory statements in the 6% I read up to.

I'm DNFing the book, unfortunately. While I was reading the ARC and know editing will help polish it up, I still felt the writing was clunky and would require some pretty heavy editing to help it. Also, the main character did something that upset me too much to continue.

While this is very clearly heavily inspired by the Vampire Troupe section of Anne Rice's books, including the main character's name BARELY changed from Armand, I am enjoying the atmosphere so far.
