Islands don’t exist
To swim in the ocean we sometimes have to make a splash.

I know there is a common misconception that cats are somehow less loving than dogs. This is nonsense. The love a cat can give you is sudden and warm. It’s just that a cat’s love comes completely free of any moral or ethical principles. It is love for the hell of it. A completely recreational love.

All reading in short is telepathy and all reading is time travel. It connects us to everyone and everywhere and every time and every imagined dream.

… humans are essentially telepathic creatures and our silent thoughts aren’t contained any more than light is contained in a lightbulb.

We have the unbreakable and the eternal inside us. We have the universe in our blood and bones.

The whole universe is inside us. Every element within us was made in a star. Nitrogen, calcium, hydrogen, oxygen, phosphorus…we are made of deep space and time and have been forged in supernova. An element is matter that cannot be broken down ..primes of the cosmos. We are made of the elements.

Karl had a theory that art and music and everything they ever existed were somehow inside us. A good song or a good piece of sculpture was good because it spoke to something already there within us.

The point of desperation is often the point of truth…
We sometimes need to feel trapped in order to find the way out. We don’t meet ourselves in the light and air…

The sadness leaked out. It was there on my face and in my eyes. Grief was a flood that ran through you and caused others to stand aside. Or at least wind up the conversation.

The trouble with tragedy is that it takes everything that comes after. On occasion they’d been comforted by the sharing of memories but when Karl died it became harder because the memories had nowhere to go.

This made me reflect on how often we take out our worst behaviours with those we love the most. I’d never connected it to trust before but it makes sense.

Isn’t it a shame that when things are going so well, our minds by default go to the negative and the inevitable “when will the other shoe drop?” mindset …

It was done then. Cap was gone, and she would never see him again. What an odd idea really, to know that someone so very necessary in your life was lost to you and couldn’t be called back.
