This book is so stressful 😭

Just found out the audiobooks for this series are narrated by freaking Arthur Morgan aka Roger Clark?! Why the fuck am I reading them physically?!

Ugh, I really wish I was enjoying this more, it was one of my most anticipated books of the year. But it really needed more high level editing; it feels like crucial steps in character/story development are just skipped over. It's all a bit surface level. Also, Alison is SO STUPID for someone who supposedly has a PhD

Wish I was listening to this on audiobook instead, the prose is doing nothing for me. Most of the historical sections have felt both extraneous and under developed so far. And I HATE Westley (for no good reason except he gives me bad vibes)

Stunned to learn this is a debut!!

I fear there are too many characters in this. I was really vibing with the first perspective (despite gruesome kitten death on like page 2) and I keep waiting for the story to come back around to that plot but he just keeps introducing more and more new POVs, each more unlikeable than the last. Still, there's something compulsively readable about this and the translation is really well done; it reads very naturally.

Yes, I am currently listening to three audiobooks because none of them were compelling enough to fully hold my attention 🥴

I fear this narration style is Not For Me

History (the Goodreads plot description) will say that they're "friends"

This was one of my most anticipated books of the year but I'm feeling such disappointment after picking it up. The writing is bland & colourless; even the Nancy Drew novels (which this book is compared to) have more personality. Speaking of personality, all of the characters so far just feel like cardboard cutouts. I'm ready to be surprised as I read on, but this is truly some of the most Nothing prose I've ever read

Pretty audacious for a formulaic thriller novel to open with the Leo Tolstoy quote “Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way” when all the characters are stereotypes seen in 1000000000 formulaic thrillers before

So far: Nancy Drew meets Twin Peaks, set in Canada. I am the exact target audience and I am LOVING it

This was a sort of joke gift and I wasn't sure if I was going to read it but then I saw it was set in almost same time and place as the mystery novel I'm writing so now I feel I have to (this book is set in 1900 New York City, mine is 1902 upstate New York)

For the love of god, if half of the characters have British accents, please get an audiobook narrator who can actually do a British accent
