the end of this book is straight out of an episode of Once Upon a Time and I'm annoyed about it

thank god this was written by a man bc I would DNF so fast if a woman was describing gay men in the way this author is (some of his mental illustrations are a bit much, but they're no "worse" than descriptions in smutty straight romances)

a serious conversation about defunding the police happening in the first 50 pages of this book was unexpected but not unwelcome, especially when the first book had more copaganda than I thought it would

this book is very interesting, but I'm also bored? this is always my problem with nonfiction: I'm interested in the subject but the language of the writing is more formal than what I want to read in my free time. I'm determined to finish this book, but in the future, I need to look for more nonfiction that's written like a story or conversation and not a dissertation

one of my pets peeves in nonfiction/academic books is long chapters, and this book might drive me crazy because of that. I'm super interested in the subject matter but the introduction was an HOUR of this nine hour audiobook. there are only 5 actual chapters; having sections broken down more makes the book more consumable imo, since there would be more natural pauses to stop and reflect on the writing so far
