Tonio Kröger - 3½/5 - Endnu mere selvbiografisk end Friedemann og Buddenbrooks. Jeg er generelt ikke så meget for åbenlys selvanalyse, og Manns analyse af kunstnerens forhold til samfundet er forholdsvis navlepillende. Samtidig savner jeg komikken, som jeg syntes var det bedste ved Buddenbrooks. Til gengæld var slutningen god.

Den lille hr Friedemann - 3/5 - ligheden med Hanno Buddenbrook er slående, dvs formentlig endnu et selvportræt. Friedemanns handicap og selvhad kunne meget et udtryk for Manns egen homoseksualitet.
