yana seems incredibly toxic, and the love (or perhaps obsession) that cas has for her is so interesting. i like the world, and i hope i like what sandra brings to the story.

I've been seeing this book recommended a lot, and honestly? A really interesting start! I'm excited to see how this continues.

holy hell.

Phobos, Tori Bovalino - honestly, out of everything here, this is the most “dark academia” that this anthology gets. it’s also one of my favourites. this is really what i was looking for, and i hope to see more of bovalino’s works in the tbr in the future!

The Professor of Ontology, Helen Grant - horror, and creepy. if i was a horror girlie i would have loved to see a full-length novel or even a longer short story of this. alas, i am Not a horror girlie and im a little frightened

Weekend at Bertie’s, M. L. Rio - my most anticipated read. that said, i’m a bit disappointed. loved the description and dialogue but it feels unfinished.

The Unknowable Pleasures, Susie Yang - thematically not a fan, i guess? i’m also a little disappointed with the ending.

Four Funerals, David Bell - i don’t think i like this one at all. 0/5. topic was too serious and i dont believe it was handled well.

The Ravages, Layne Fargo - iirc, she wrote They Never Learn, which is a fabulous read. that said, i’m not entirely sure this really fits the vibe i was expecting, even though the writing was lovely and i did enjoy reading the story

X House, J. T. Ellison - i actually did like this one, but the pacing is off and i feel like a longer story with more depth in the characters would definitely make this a lot better.

The Hare and the Hound, Kelly Andrew - kindly, what? good story, i see why it’s categorised dark academia but i feel the only way for it to actually be dark academia is by making the research bit longer? like where is the academia other than the the fact they’re in college?

Sabbatical, James Tate Hill - how is this dark academia? i don’t really care for what’s going on. 2 stars.

Really don't know how I feel about this story. I'm aware that it's a prequel to a novel, but the reviews I read about that book didn't exactly have me wanting to read it. That being said, a major part of the genre is characters that people don't necessarily like. The way Lorna doesn't really care until she is the one getting impacted by something make her an intriguing main character.
