Finished story #3! The variety of fantasy subgenres is keeping me engaged with the book.

I haven't read anything from start to finish in a very long time. These short stories are giving me the boost that I need to get back into reading. The first two stories had me coming back for more, and I'm about 12 pages into the third with high hopes for the rest of this book. They have all been very well done so far!

Rothfuss knows how to tell a story. It's not often that I find books that stick with me and pull me back to them after I've set them down. All I want to do is keep the story going, so I have both the audiobook and the ebook versions for when one or the other is more convenient.

There are parts of this book that are uncomfortable to read because the villain takes pleasure in senseless violence. I don't know if I will continue reading the series. It depends how this book ends...

The chapter lengths are really weird. Some of them are only one sentence long... Also, I'm glad I'm reading the ebook version and can tap on a word to define it because I've had to look up about 6 words so far which is really uncommon for me.

I'm liking the Norse-esque bits. The nods to familiar mythology and fairytales don't seem forced but they're there and obvious enough that I can go, "Ahhhh, I see what you did there."

Chemistry between characters has gotten better, and the plot thickens...

So far, so many highlights in my overdrive version! Bright's diction is really good. My one complaint is how fickle Selah is in her interest in men. The romance is headed one direction, and then, nope, there's another guy she's interested in. I get it, she's got suitors being paraded in front of her that she wants nothing to do with, so she's looking anywhere else, but why can't she be interested in just one guy?

So, one thing that I don't get so far is why mice are good, rats are bad, and fish are an inferior species that can be eaten. It's one of the tricky things about writing a book from the perspective of animals: where to draw the line of sentience. Also, was the pike that cost Cluny the Scourge his eye a fish, or another animal wielding a pike pole?
