I often wonder "if they, the ones who let their blood spill in pursuit of our freedom...if they had known that this is what our liberation would look like, would they have endured the struggle? Would they have persevered? Would they have continued fighting if they knew that the new South Africa they were being persecuted and tortured for would leave their children poor and hungry?"

What causes our minds to one day betray us?
What process is undergone by those who lose control of the ability to coerce their mind into doing what they desire, before such control is completely surrendered?
Can the process be halted, reversed even?
Is death the only repose for those who have undergone this process?

These are the questions that now haunt me after reading this story.
