I've been hearing about this book for forever. I wanted something that was a little hurt/comfort and also easily digestible. This fit the bill perfectly. I think some might find it a bit cliche, but it feels pretty earnest to me and it's exactly what I wanted to read.

I seemed to be on a historical romance kick and just re-reading all my favs.

I’m rereading just in time for the show to come out. I feel spoiled this month for the amount of awesome shows that will be airing including this. This was definitely a top 3 book of the whole book series for me.

I was searching for a history book I could listen to while playing video games and came across this. Despite being one of my favorite shows since I was a teenager I’ve never read the book and lucky for me it was available from the library. I am so down for this.

After binging the show yesterday we’re gonna do a double feature with the books. I need to finish reading these books right quick so I can go back to my other obsession Where Winds Meet.

Not my usual read, but after seeing the godlike edits of the TV show and knowing it will become my new fav thing, I want to see what the book is about first.

I feel like this is less a biography of Augustus and more a focused look at the transition from the Republic to the Empire. That’s not really what I was looking for when I picked it up.

This has been shockingly good. I read a lot of sagas built around renowned historical figures. This is incredibly well researched, with enough plot to keep it moving. I have a strong sense of who the characters are on more than just a surface level. My only complaint is that the writing can be overindulgent while still lacking a distinct stylistic flair, which I found a bit odd, but it isn’t a major flaw.

This is series is literally so good so far. I have been sat.

I’ve tried one other CI book The Gate of Athens and didn’t care for it so much so it went in the DNF pile. I’m only a quarter of the way in and this is definitely doing it for me. It reminds me in style and pacing quite a bit of the guy who wrote Conclave (name escaped me atm). This is such a pleasant surprise!

I sat down to watch the movie which looks phenomenal, but after a few minutes in realized I should really read the book first. Surprisingly I never have even though it seems like a thing I would enjoy.

This was one of my favorites in my initial read through and it remains so.

Man, I feel like I'm about to stall out on this book for a third time. I don't know if it's me or the book. I also don't think I have that much interest in the civil war. I dunno, blech.
