I’m gonna finish this because I’m almost done. It’s not dnf territory but I find my enthusiasm has waned more and more the further to the end I get…

I have 11 days before due back to library, and I’m going to try and finish this sooner. So far there are definitely parts I can enjoy, and parts I could. Do without? It’s interesting that I’ve had an ongoing theme that I have seen mentioned in many reviews. Not sure that takes me out of it but I can understand why it’s frustrating/ let down for many?

It is fascinating to have the breakdown of how facism can be so insidious and overt and parallel the efforts and determination of some to await the tide to change. And that that is a theme/tone of this book within the dissection of self and what this character/ we are made of from our interests and exposures… I also love this narrators abilities with multiple languages.

I am crushed (as a fine porcelain cup) that there is only 2 hours left of this for me 🥹

Immediately I am gripped, and immersed. This is a beautiful listen already. How is this only a 4 hour read (audio book)??

I may be struggling to keep engaged with the perspective of the writing. But I’m intrigued and going to keep listening still out of curiosity: about the story, and whether or this style of writing is for me.

There are many lovely descriptions, and it feels like a lot of intent behind words chosen. I really adore how the narrator sounds doing the many voices, adds to the atmosphere in my opinion

Choosing to start this randomly after Sanderson Warbreaker is interesting, had not realized there may be a connection even loosely (married 17yo main character?). But interested to see where this goes, a departure from my usual fare!

I kept thinking I hadn’t read this one, but in revisiting this I realized how I had. It’s been interesting to experience this almost like new - as I had forgotten much of the story outside of one of the main mysteries- but. Now with much more of the Cosmere knowledge I find it more intriguing and exciting.

The Doug’s chapter might be one of my favourite/ most enjoyable chapter starts. Absurd. Love it.
