Dragons, dark and handsome love interest invoking MC's yearning, MC is of course the chosen one in yet another scenario. The predictable plot my soul needs in these trying academic times once again.

I just know 14 year old me would have loved Violet, alas the badass nerd trope with silver hair is done and dusted for me.

As someone who has never been to LA, I at this point of the book still struggle to understand at all what Eve Babitz likes about it. As a textbook "European" it sounds like absolute hell based on her descriptions. And even the fast company of the book has been most intriguing when they are actually not at all from Los Angeles. Let's see if by the time I finish I can understand her love a bit more.

Figured a reading slump is best beaten with a very topical and easily digestible book. For now this is it, short chapters, a character just neutral enough to be relatable to everyone, and contrary to the cover, extremely contemporary writing. For now it's not exactly what I was looking for, but it's the type of book I can read in a cafe no problem without having to focus too much.

"Indeed, to speak of love is not ‘preaching,’ for the simple reason that it means to speak of the ultimate and real need in every human being. . . . To have faith in the possibility of love as a social and not only exceptional-individual phenomenon, is a rational faith based on the insight into the very nature of man.”

Wowwww, this one got me ngl

New literature in the heartbreak ailment department. So far so good, but for now fills me more with anger about the patriarchy than practicing detachment…to be fair that IS a good distraction
