There’s this part where the faerie guy and feyre ‘go over the edge together.’ … And I vividly remember thinking, at thirteen, that that meant they fell off the bed. But obviously it didn’t.

Nesta’s moment of remembering is genuinely really good writing and characterization.

It’s the word Calumny spelled phonetically. Meaning doesn’t matchup, so maybe she just liked the sound…? I think ‘Suriel’ has a Latin root but I’m not sure. I’m sorry! Ik I’d say I’d quit with the vocab but I am fascinated with how YA authors build words: not quite JRR Tolkien, not quite just using the word, but something in between holding a thesaurus.

I always knew the magic would link to sex somehow, and I distantly remembered this whole ‘ceremony’ deal (which is the calumny spelled phonetically in a vaguely Latin way, but considering my recent vocab crimes I think I’ll leave off the criticism), but the ceremony thing is a lot more freudian-urge-repressed-made-into-ceremony-necessity-so-it-can-be-indulged than I recalled. But it makes sense.

I remember all of this now. But barely.

When I was younger I had a much broader capacity for just letting go of whatever I didn’t understand. Now, I’m struggling a bit more: I wanna know where on the hands Tamlin’s claws are “coming out” of. Like, the tip of his fingers? The knuckles, like Wolverine? How can he “embed” them in the chair?????? Sarah? Anybody?

Why look for anti-faerie in faerie land? Only dumb faeries would plant anti-faerie tree near faerie house.

I read this whole series when I was thirteen. Yep. Yes, thirteen, and I really liked it. I am returning to it because I remember it being engrossing and I am interested to see if that really is a facet of the storytelling. I am not a snob. I refuse to be. My heart is open, my mind even more so, and I am not afraid of facing the cringe or who I was.

I’m supposed to be feeling like nick carraway and instead I’m lowkey feeling like one of the last guests at the party and everything’s coming in episodes. Sawry. We’ll see.
