Pretty good overall, but literally Violet has not caught a single break this entire book, I need it to slow downnnnnnn!! This definitely could have been made into multiple shorter books with more scenes of her interacting with her friends and others to develop their characters and relationships more instead of it feeling so go-go-go the whole time

I HAVE BINGE-READ 3/4 OF THIS BOOK IN 2 DAYS AND I LOVE THIS BOOK SO VERY MUCH. PLANT MAGIC? LGBTQ+ REP? BLACK FMC? ADOPTIVE FAMILY? MYSTERIOUSLY INHERITED ESTATE? DID I MENTION PLANT MAGIC? PLZ READ IT IF THIS SOUNDS EVEN REMOTELY INTERESTING, IT’S SO WORTH IT

I AM SO IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK AND R. F. KUANG’S WRITING. I CANNOT EMPHASIZE THIS ENOUGH. This book is so important and the story is told so eloquently. As someone super interested in linguistics and who also loves magical realism, this is such a perfect combo that also incorporates so much incredibly important social commentary on colonialism, racism against Asian people, academia, and more. YOU NEED TO READ THIS!

Loving it so far! The dynamic between the main girls is so interesting since they all just came together and are starting to bond, and I think I’m very likely going to really enjoy the rest of the book as well
