Not the turn I was expecting from this book…but wow…murder?

Bryan Washington wrote this book for the gays that have dated a man who could never be ours. This book is too real. This book is for us.

I don’t know. I’m glad that I’m close to the end because this has been a bit of a struggle. Definitely not enjoying this as much as Before I Let Go. The story feels forced and there’s just too much going on including all of the discussion of Judah’s kids (as great as the autism rep is)

* Whipping Young George for stealing a pencil
* Jim’s hallucinations and conversation with John Locke and other historical figures.
* Contemplations on religion (the way the Bible is used to oppress Black folks and women - p. 105)
* Bluebird Hole where the language is “better” still racist

OMFG. The DRAMA.
