I swear to God, how am I supposed to root for a main character who very nearly makes a scene because the coffee counter in the only grocery store in a town that is not connected to other towns by roads does not have plant milk and because the store does not carry her brand of soy milk? I’m not sure when the last time I had cow milk was but I would not expect silk soy milk in rural Alaska??

Wow, Calla really went full spoiled city girl. I get that Jonah intentionally taking the smallest plane to get her is supposed to show us that he’s a prick but who does not pack her boots and instead keeps her wedge heels when she does not know when her luggage will be sent to her?

Okay, fair enough but I don’t think I like an author actively leading me astray this much

I truly wanted to enjoy this book and it is at last something refreshingly different from Ali Hazelwood but I really do not see a scenario where the hero is redeemable here

I always enjoy Melanie Harlow’s writing and intrigue in Cloverleigh stories but why on earth would you choose to tell someone you’re engaged to someone you’re not and then AFTER you had an hour to cool down tell them the wedding was next month??

I‘m sorry but why would you choose to name a character Mimi Pepper-Peabody?

Ngl the naked shoot she doesn’t really have a choice about doesn’t sit right with me

3rd essay: Pure Heroines
Everything but the last three pages felt like Tolentino wanted to say “look at all these fancy books I’ve read”. I understand that these books have shaped our society and there were a few interesting points in the essay but she just went on and on about how she hated the life portrayed for women in these books (which I get but… maybe just read different, more contemporary books.)

Essay 3 “Always Optimizing”: this one didn’t really work for me

Essay 2: I think most people can see part of their teenage self in Tolentino’s reflections on her reality tv ventures. Also, the last line is a pretty great piece of writing (a little funny, a tiny bit self-conceited)

First essay: some things really resonated with me (such as that it is essential that social media is unsatisfying for us to continue scrolling) but a lot of it was about people with trying to sell their relationships on Instagram which didn’t feel that relevant to me personally (although maybe I am deluding myself)

Idk this feels more like them slowly becoming friends than a romance to me

I think this is one of those cases where I don’t understand why people let terrible people stay in their life just because “they’re family” and it is also one of those cases where I really don’t feel bad for the heroine because she should have learned her lesson a long time ago

Okay, why does Aurora keep doing new, difficult stuff alone when it hasn’t worked out for her once

Okay, I knew people called Mariana Zapata the queen of slow burn but this is another level
(Also the heroine is a tad bit childish but I’m dealing with it)

This has to be the most creative I’ve ever seen anyone get with poetry

I really see my experience reading this book in that quote

I really don’t like Poppy.
Maybe Emily Henry just isn’t for me, this is the second time I’m reading a book of hers just because of the hype

I’m not sure how I feel about this whole setup.
The way the author doesn’t reveal what the big fight was about feels forced and the constant pretending this is a paid-for trip just feels like a miscommunication blow-up waiting to happen. I get why she made these choices (it is basically half the plot) but I don’t really enjoy these tropes

I’m a little scared this will be a “big city girl realises she just needs to move back to her small hometown to be happy” book

ngl, I’m not a huge fan of how the hero keeps convincing the heroine to do just a bit more. I get how it’s meant in their dynamic but I still don’t like it

So far this is equally as atmospheric as Cerulean Sea was and it hooked me just as much but it does feel much heavier

I have both positive and negative thoughts but I’m reading this incredibly fast so at the very least I’m entertained
