I REALLY liked Part I of this book and the end of Part II. I’m struggling with the rest of it. Listening to the audiobook (read by the author, who is wonderful), but I find myself bored while listening. I’ve already “read” 14 hours and there’s 18 to go!

Read this in college and I still have a visceral reaction thinking about it. I never finished it because it was so terrifying. Giving it another go and then planning to watch the Hulu series. The book is very good—and I’m not a fan of science fiction—but it’s also hard to stomach with its graphic detail of antebellum South.

Listening to this book on Audible. I was looking for a good read that had a narrator with a relaxing voice and this one is perfect! Less than an hour in, but already intrigued and looking forward to my drive time.

Listening to this one on Audible, but kind of wishing I read the physical book. The writing is quite beautiful in places and has passages/phrasing I’d like to recall for my reviews.
It’s narrated by Julia Whelan; she also contributed to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo as the tabloid narrator. Whelan is an excellent narrator; her inflection, speed, and accent are a good fit for this novel.

I’ve heard this book is gut-wrenching (the cover alone is a giveaway), and even in the first 100 pages, there’s so much pain.
If you like books with lots of character backstory and analysis, this is the one for you.

I loved Daisy Jones & the Six, and I’ve seen this book recommended on so many lists, so I’m giving it a go on Audible. I’m not especially a fan of Monique’s narrator, but Evelyn is exactly what I expected and wanted. I love hearing people’s stories and listening to Evelyn is a treat.

I intended to read this book in one shot—finish it fast, so I’d be more prepared to teach this year. But I quickly realized that it was a book I needed to carry with me for awhile. I read a bit of it each day and it helps me retain the content all the more.

This book is MAGICAL!! I love it so much!! I want to listen to it all the time, but I also don’t want it to end. I love all these amazing characters and wish they were real.

I first read this book in middle school (so, 30ish years ago), and it was an instant favorite. I read it once more before I graduated high school and then forgot about it. Over the years I tried locating a copy, but it was out of print. Most libraries no longer carry it and private sellers jacked up the price to $200+ for a used copy.
I finally found a copy for $50 and it was worth every penny. The nostalgia!!!
