Amanda is starting A Girl's Story
About 30 pages in and I am CAPTIVATED. Reading Ernaux is one of the greatest delights of my life.

The book by Guy Cools I’m actually reading, “Performing Mourning”, isn’t on Goodreads so I’m logging this instead lol

This is amazing and I’m so glad I started reading it, especially right now. Helen Garner is brilliant. I will treasure this book forever.

This is so much better than I’d anticipated, which is nice after reading so many mediocre books lately!

Amanda is starting Who Gets to Be Smart: Privilege, Power and Knowledge
If you’re thinking of reading this, don’t. This is not good. It reads like an essay and screams privilege. Maybe I’m missing the point but... it feels out of touch? I can’t be bothered finishing it.

Amanda is starting The Midnight Library
How do I say this politely? I’m sick of popular books that have something “profound” to say, about how bad social media is blah blah blah, and just feel like it was written to sell millions of copies. Look there are probably lots of people out there who will love this but I’m done with books like this.

Amanda is on page 50 of 335 of Mantel Pieces: Royal Bodies and Other Writing from the London Review of Books
I’m trying to reduce my unread book pile from 70 to 10 in the shortest amount of time possible, and in doing so I have become quite judgemental and won’t stick with books that aren’t gripping me by page 100. In amongst some mediocre things I’ve read lately — this is outstanding. I think I’m obsessed with Hilary Mantel?!?!?
