Another one of those books about neurodivergence without saying it. But also about long lasting trauma. Like Elleanor Oliphant…

Funny, unusual and quite sweet. Unlike many other books I’ve read and not much depth at the same time as a lot of serious issues discussed.

Well. Quite incredible. Long spells of poetic and enveloping language. Not what I expected and incredibly sad. With just enough adapted history of Lutheran arrival in South Australia to keep you going.

Stay with it until past page 100. Before then I’d been starting to get tired of the descriptions of abuse followed by descriptions of the (poor) mans upbringing. This from the author “to then turn around and look at domestic abuse through the eyes of the perpetrators - and to see them as complex humans with their own needs and sensitivities - has been so difficult that it’s sometimes literally made me feel ill”

I just can't manage to read any more right now. I'm not sure if it's because of the bushfires or viruses or drought or travel bans but I'm really finding this endless whirl of who-stabs-who to be tiring. Maybe later.

Argh the male stink of testosterone coming off this book is making me gag when I read it. The characters are one dimensional and nothing has happened except a bunch of posturing, by half way through. I want to give up! I hate it.

And I'm already confused but intrigued!!

Finished the first chapter. The imagery is strong but I have very little desire to find out what happens next. Putting it down for a bit.
