This book makes me crave a martini at Martin’s Tavern, hometown stories just hit different.

Play World is a smart, slow-burn anti-coming of age novel, and I mean slow. Watching how the adults ultimately take advantage of the protagonist was fascinating but uncomfortable, adding an extra layer of grit to the story. Still, the lack of resolution naturally left me unsatisfied.
Thought-provoking? Absolutely. Perfectly titled? Yes. But I wanted a bit more payoff for the ride.

woof. Halfway through and while the writing is undeniably sharp and skillful, I’m struggling to stay invested. The lack of character/plot development is making this tough to pick up.
