As he says in one story - this book is for gays & women. Well, obviously! Rather whiny tales, every one of them gay-centric. Some funny stories, but many cringe-y. And, no, I’m not gay, but am a woman (although over 65)

Won’t be able to finish reading this book. I’m not a very religious person, but the premise of this book intrigued me. Unfortunately, such inaccuracies and prejudices have soured me on continuing. First they did not plant any sort or conifer or pine at 9/11 Memorial - it’s a Bradford pear. Deciduous. And calling John Edwards (although not named) a prominent politician? And some parts are very anti-Muslim.

Lots of errors in this book. Including calling a character David at one point and later Jordan. And a repetitious bio of a character (appeared twice in the book, 100 pages apart). And several timelines did NOT make sense. Plus the plot was thin. Not her best book.

Could not continue reading this book. Such cruelty, such horrid circumstances - beaten with switches, raped, living in shit up to their ankles. There is enough evil in this world, and I choose not to willing let it occupy my mind. I cannot imagine why this book got such good reviews. I guess some (many?) enjoy the seamier, sadder side of life.

not the best book i've read on the subject; jumps around so much that it's hard to keep track of the characters.

Could not finish reading this book. Too much gayness. . .sorry. And not very attractive characters

Unfortunately, this book is more partisan than i expected it would be. While i agree with much of the commentary, i find the author mostly critical of Republicans and admiring of Democrats, as well as the policies ascribed to each party, rather than nonpartisan, which detracts from the overall message. I don't plan to read his next book, due to this disappointment.

Well, at about page 165 finally the book got more interesting as past details about the characters' lives were revealed, intertwined with present-day events. However, most of the characters are still unlikeable, as they have been from the beginning.
