Such a quiet read that flows delicately. Perfect for a gloomy day.

I'm not sure if this is the pallette cleanser I'm looking for, but the description starts with "A family without men," so we can say it's highly promising.

Reading this at times feels like George Orwell is screaming at me through Gordon Comstock. He knows he's exaggerating, and I know he's indulging the pleasure of it. The nursing of pain. The philosophizing of it. And then, the spouting of irrational arguments to keep the stimulation running.

I am enjoying this so much! :)))) I do see why Orwell thinks he oughtn't to have published this. It was based on a time of financial desperation, and he goes in detail of writing woes (possibly his), and so the text is full of angst and infectious spite. ("Give me not righteousness, O Lord, give me money, only money.")

Looking back, he probably cringed. But I love it, Orwell. You can't take it back. Ha!

I am blown away, and I want to drop everything and keep reading, but hurrying also feels like doing a great disservice to a hell of a book, so goodnight. (It is 3 AM what the fuck.)

informative and easy read so far

already saved a couple of phrases for future use. 😉 will read the rest during my commute.

also, roman poets are so fascinating. i mean, of course, romans are, in general, but the poets! they intrigue me the most

Slowlyyyy reading this.

The lack of quotation marks bothers me a lot. (And I have read Sally Rooney).

Jasmine is on page 54 of 321 of On Writing Well: The Classic Guide to Writing Nonfiction
still not learning anything new from this but at least the writer is finally getting over himself and is writing actual advice. his writing is getting a little better but it is still convoluted and all over the place.

imo, this entire book could be condensed into an essay but i'm getting ahead of myself :)
