If You Were Here

Judy is on page 304 of 648 of Mrs. Everything
The characters are relatable, some endearing, and the author seems to capture the time period with a few references to cultural trends, dress, events and artifacts, but the book is overlong.

Judy is starting An Unwanted Guest
I had to change my original suspect, as he was also murdered.

New suspect....30+ pages left. Let’s see if I’m correct.

Judy is starting An Unwanted Guest
Guessed the first victim, an inkling about the murderer....yet very suspenseful.

Judy is starting All Things Cease to Appear
Starting this tonight. I love starting a new book; pulling a novel, either at random or with a plan, from my many shelves and stacks of unread books. Books are a weakness. I love going to the library, and visiting indie bookstores; we're blessed to have both in our town.

But I digress. I like Brundage and have read two of her other novels. It moved up in the unread queue bc right now I'm concentrating on suspense.

Reading What Alice Forgot....this may be Moriarty 's best. The depiction of Libby's situation is do well done; it resonates.

"Once you learn to read, you will be forever free." ~ Frederick Douglass

This reminds me of an oft-repeated quote of my Grandfather's, an immigrant whom I never met, that my Mom would share: " An education is something no one can ever take away from you".

I preface this by saying I'm not a huge fan. I love memoirs, though, & she did an amazing job hawking her book, releasing enough poignant details from childhood, including loss of her Dad young, at Christmas (we share that; my Mom died a few days before & was buried on the Eve). Her drive & focus are intense, her work ethic strong; we have that in common as well. I'm riveted.

Judy is starting Rabbit, Run (Rabbit Angstrom, #1)
Found this a rather bleak tale.

Sometimes rating a book that is well-written but has a central character with whom I don't connect or who I dislike, or has a weak story, is difficult! It makes me inflate my rating a bit, because I have such a weakness for excellent use of the language.
