IDK why the priests were so mean and refused to baptize poor little Rachel. Annoyed for her.

I'm really hoping that a certain character is OK...

The story is picking up. I liked a surprise reveal in this section. I'm starting to have a soft spot for these monks!

I really enjoyed the first section.

I am morbidly curious to know out what other horrible things are in store for the characters of Steinbeck's epic western. I feel like the content I have read so far could easily be 2 shorter books if it were split apart, both with complete and compelling narratives.

**CONTENT NOTE** Racism, Misogyny (Steinbeck really seems to have a problem with Asian Americans and frankly it is bizarre)

Really enjoying this so far. A nice, light read. A good mix of action and character development set in the Star Wars universe. The romantic parts are well written...nothing very "spicy" though as this is still Disney(tm) Star Wars. Make sure you are familiar with the Original Trilogy (Star Wars a New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi) as these films form the background of the story.

loving it...a fast and easy read for me

Some of the science stuff is going over my head. I am learning a lot, so that's fun.
