Ok, I hate the miscommunication trope in general, but this book is really taking it to new levels. The characters are really bending over backwards in order to jump at the least likely meaning behind certain words. I've been loving this story and characters so far, but the way they completely ignore the most likely explanations despite repeatedly confirming otherwise to each other, is the stupidest thing ever.

That being said, thanks to the author of calling out William Golding, because he's right.

Seriously, I just started it and already the way the author describes Ethan's hearing is like she's describing me, kind of. I don't have a full hearing loss and most of it is one ear, but Ethan with hearing aids seems to have some similar issues to me. The high noises being painful, struggle to distinguish human voice among background noises. Just wow.

Yay for supportive friends. Kyle is awesome.

Oh, come on, not the "she's not like other girls" bullsh*t. That's one thing I don¨t like about this book. Sam is constantly compared to other women who all act like brainless bimbos.

"He tips his Corona in my direction." I know they mean beer, but I really had to laugh at that. Like, keep your corona to yourself, sir :D.

You just told a fellow nun you got in the middle of a murder investigation and her reaction is to look "pleased and interested"? One would think you just told her you joined a knitting club. Why don't the people in this book act like people?

Girl, you have no reason to doubt anything yet. You don't even know who this Ramirez guy is and you're already like: "I don't think it was him." Unless it was you who killed him, I'm not buying this. No normal person would have serious doubts in your place.

I don't hvae a habit of fangirling over men in YA, but Thorn might be the exception. He's so endearing with his clumsy efforts at figuring Ophelia out.

"I name you the vice-storyteller."

"Oh? Perfect. So we'll avoid any unecessary paperwork."

He wants to schedule a meeting with her, so she could smash a plate on his head. Like he actually wants to write this down into his personal organizer. I think I actually love him :D.

The premise is fascinating and I am intrigued. Not to mention I love arranged marriage plots. For some reason it gives me His Dark Materiels vibes, but it might be that I read Pullman ages ago and have very vague memories of the books.

Look, I know she's your daughter and you want to think she's special, but reading Jane Austen at 13 is really not that impressive. You're acting as if she's been reading Kant or something.

I'm starting to root for the murderer. Pretty much everyone except maybe two or three people in that hotel are jerks or idiots. The problem is that the murderer started with people that were mostly ok :D.

These people keep doing in in the most inconvenient places and situations. Oh, you have just been shot twice and we're lost in the middle of nowhere? Perfect. So hot.

You're fucking joking. You're starting with this in the middle of a rescue mission? This is so incredibly stupid I'm actually stunned someone could come up with this.

Few pages in and Embry is already such a drama queen I have to laugh. Look, I don't know what you did, kid, but the way you talk about yourself, it seems like you committed a genocide, murdered your own family, drowned all the kittens of the world AND kicked a thousand puppies.

Lol. So I met this character at the beginning of the novel and immediatelly imagined them as black for some reason. Then the character ended up being murdered and at first I was like: "Of course the person of color would die." And then I realized the author never even mentioned anything about their skin color. Did I just unknowingly make the murder victim black?

Um, excuse me, but why the hell are you talking about You Are My Sunshine in the Joy chapter? Have you ever actually heard that song?
