Isabelle is reading The Rose Arbor
This has been a pleasant read. The plot is ingenious, and as usual, the author has planted historical elements, notably relating to WWII, but also to the hippie wave of the sixties.
I didn't enjoy it as much as I had the Tuscan child though.

The book revolves around Stella, a newly-retired social anthropologist, who tries to join the community of small village in Somerset. At the same time she reflects on her past life, the loss of Nadine, the pal of her student days.
In parallel we follow a dysfunctional family of four. The mother keeps nagging at her sons, the father is withdrawn.
There are some fascinating quotes about life,

The author has a unique talent to describe the most inner thoughts of each character. One by one we get to know the protagonists.

The book is true to the original horsepack ladies. As the story unfolds, it becomes ever more gripping. The women are endearing. I am eager to see how the book ends!

Isabelle is starting The Giver of Stars
I found the story slow to start with, but it is becoming more interesting. I like the vivid descriptions of landscapes and rurality, as well as the common spirit of the locals.

Isabelle is starting The Pursuit of Happiness
I've read over 3/4 of the book and I am somewhat disappointed. I had read a book by the same author a few years ago, and I'd found the story gripping. This is not the case this time. Also, I do not like the narrative style. It may appeal to real New Yorkers who can ramble through the streets. There are a few realistic comments on life but the book could have been shorter, more concise.

Isabelle is starting Homecoming
I've reached the section where the narrative focuses on Isabel Turner and the immediate aftermath of the tragedy. This story is captivating and I don't want to rush to the end. I want to appreciate every bit!

Isabelle is starting The Schoolteacher of Saint-Michel
I've read 3/4 of the book and I enjoy the story and its plot. I must praise the author who so brilliantly recreated the feel and mood of a village during Nazi occupation.
It's a very good book well documented.

Isabelle is finished with Midnight at Malabar House (Malabar House #1)
I have delved into the good with immense pleasure. The central point is Bombay, the Malabar house and the frictions between communities in the newly independent India.
Persi is a young officer, first female police officer whose rights are put to the test.
Excellent read.

Isabelle is reading The Oceans Between Us
A very well written story about the hardship experienced by displaced children. Although it is fiction, it stems from real facts.
The subline is discrimination against race.
I've really enjoyed my reading.

The investigation is now in full swing. Two murders have taken place and so far few clues as to who might be the killer.
I like the characters, mainly Elisabeth and Joyce. They are vividly portraied by the writer. The book is entertaining.

I'm half way! the mystery has become more complex! no clues yet as who is behind the murders! All that I know is that somehow the Spanish civil war has something to do with the tragedy!
