Started reading this again. Every Black woman needs to read this book at least once.

I'm loving this book, but my gosh is it heavy. DX All it's doing is stating facts, yet it's much of a "truth hurts" situation. We shouldn't avoid reading books like this.... But I definitely have to balance it out w/ a more "upbeat" book lol.

I don't know why, but this book makes me feel anxious when I read it.... It's nothing but pure facts, so I'm not saying it's bad. It's very informative and shares a great light that affects so many Black women. I'm able to identify traits of the StrongBlackWoman caricature in my grandmother, mother, and myself. Guess it just hurts how much it all hits home....

I love this book & Billy Chapata so much. I pick this up every time I need to breathe after an emotional time lol. Need to get his new book 'Flowers on the Moon' soon!

Only a chapter in, and I'm already loving this. The names of the chapters alone are so much. I can already recognize traits of the "StrongBlackWoman" caricature in me. All I can say is that I'm ready to heal.

This book reminds me of what has been said before: Hip hop is more than a music genre. It's a culture, as well as a lifestyle. 💯 The amount of rap artists referenced in this book, leaders like Assata Shakur & Malcolm X, and our history in relation to Africa - the motherland. The amount of Black pride in this book over the love of music & blackness, and our roots.... It's so refreshing. 💙

Believe it or not, this is my 1st time reading this book! Picked it for the Bunny Boo" prompt of the Bratz readathon (my 1st one ever btw). So far, so good! I see why people liked it so much. Suzanne Collins writes great cliffhangers, and Katniss is an awesome character. Excited to see how this ends!

Story #1 was a thrill to read! 😄 The descriptions of the reimagined Snow White, and her loving her skin & coils was refreshing. 🌸

The perfect time to be reading this book. Haven't gotten deep within the gold yet, but I already am loving the discussions, and the direction the author is going in. ♡♡
