The Inset, A House in a Distant City, is an excellent short story within a story.

Damn this book is dense. 900 pages to go.

Year's End: A portrait of a mourning family, of moving on despite being unable to. This time from Kaushik's POV. It's interesting.

Part 2: Hema and Kaushik> Once in a Lifetime: An interesting, sombre beginning to this three story series.

Nobody's Business: A fine story of how people ruin lives, and how sometimes we still go back to them.

Only Goodness: So far my least favourite story in this collection. Still good, but the characters seemed much less fleshed out.

Choice of Accomodations: How she imbues such history and depth in this world and her characters in 40 odd pages, I have no idea.

Hell-Heaven: Who do you blame (probably Pranab)? Sad all around. Poor Deborah, that saint of a woman. Only question left in my mind is the reasons for Pranab's behaviour: distancing himself from Bengalis or the mother?

Unaccustomed Earth (First story): I like the prose, it paints a vivid picture in colours I can see. Change and the acceptance of change are the main themes. People change, sometimes later when you needed them to. There are things you will never know or understand.

End of Part 3: I really like this book so far.

End of Part 2: The book is getting better. I understand Charlie more now. Poor kid.

End of the Fifth Narrative: Very revelatory, Mr Jennings endeared himself to me in a matter of a few pages. Only one mystery now remains. The end is near.

End of the Second Period, Third Narrative:
Probably the second most eventful narrative in the book thus far. Thrilling, moving, emotional all in one. Getting exciting.

Interesting, this new narrative. Very shocking, confounding revelations have been made and no explanation makes itself readily apparent.

End of the Second Period, Second Narrative: Mr Bruff's short account reveals some significant information that is still, in actuality, mere speculation on part of Mr Murthwaite.

End of the Second Period, First Narrative: Miss Clack is quite self righteous and unlikeable. Not much of the mystery was uncovered here.
