This is the most poorly narrated audiobook I have ever listened to!! The guy puts a period in the middle of a sentence and then continues with it completely detached from the beginning. As just one example! But I'm too deep into it to order a print book from the library.

These stories are gems! What I expect from Hadley.

I'm taking this out of cold storage. I wasn't connecting with it when I started in November and set it aside. 3 months later, I think I'm ready to take another stab at it.

Set this aside for a while but thought I'd take another run at it. I'm thinking audio isn't the best format for this book, but that's what I've got.

I'm loving this short and lively biography of a favorite author. At the same time I'm distracted by many misspellings and typos! How did this happen in this highly recommended and beautifully designed book?

I'm not wowed as I expected but enjoying. Even though I saw a recommendation from a NY Times book editor today for the audio, I believe that reading in print would be a better experience. So many characters and places to keep track of and the interesting formatting in the book is missing in the audio.

I loved this when it first came out, but now that I'm revisiting after 40 years, I see I remember very little except that I loved it. Really enjoying this now in audio.

Listening to the great Ruby Dee narrate this classic is like listening to pure poetry or spoken song . . . or maybe both!

I keep wondering if I'm liking this book simply because of its own merits or because of the delight in making connections to David Copperfield! Whichever, I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I'm enjoying Demon C.

I'm continuing to chip away at this tome a little at a time in between other reads. Fascinating, well written and terrific narration by favorite Aiden Kelly.

Ugh! This author does not know Chicago where this book is set! What things are called, how long it takes a bus to get from Pilsen to Evanston, the location of a hospital, proximity to the lake. Calling a building manager a super said no one ever in Chicago. Huge tipoff that the author lives in NYC. It takes more than research to get it right! This stuff keeps puling me out of a pretty good story.

After a slow start, I'm really enjoying this. I didn't think I'd like the narrator, but now feel she's perfect for voicing the Padavano sisters!

Still plugging away at this a little at a time in-between other audiobooks. Important, but hard to hear about the early days of The Troubles and grateful that this isn't the sole focus of the book.

Darn, I had to send this back to the library. Will have to wait for my new hold to clear.

This book is riveting, but I'm listening a little at a time in between other books. A lot to take in all at once!

This is such a funny and tender memoir. Early on we learn that the title came from little 5-year-old Séamas running around the house at his mother's wake asking everyone "Did ye hear my Mammy died?" Out of the mouths of babes.

Oh, this is so good! I'm dragging my feet on finishing it so I can enjoy every delicious moment.

I'm really enjoying this, but at 448 pages of really teeny-tiny print I'm pretty sure I won't finish before it's due back at the library!

In the home stretch! It's been all David Copperfield all the time since January 1. I'm still loving it but will be glad when I'm finished and can discuss with my reading buddy.

20 hours down and 16 to go! Feels like this will never end, but I'm still loving the writing, the story and especially the fabulous narration by Richard Armitage. (swoon :))

I've listened to almost 9 hours and still have 28 to go! This is quite the project, but I'm enjoying the writing, the story, as well as the fabulous narration by Richard Armitage.

I almost gave up on this one - so many characters and situations to keep track of. But then, a reading friend told me this is one of her favorites and encouraged me to "press on".

In my last update I said it was "fun" reading about a book set in my neighborhood/city. After the turn this book took about 60% through, I think fun might not be the right word, but I'm still liking it a lot.

I can hardly put this down! I knew nothing about it before starting. Took a while to get engaged, but now, wow!

Darn! I had to take this back to the library today as I'm going into surgery tomorrow and won't be able to finish it in time.

Listening to the wonderful Juliet Stevenson bring this story to life . . . sublime!
