Was super excited to pick up this audiobook and hear my dear friend is narrating this amazing book about his dear friend! Just a couple chapters in and it’s fascinating listen so far.

Ugh, this book is so painful to go through. While the topics are great, the author is completely insufferable with how many times he speaks of himself. I wish I didn't have to use this for the class Im covering - its now still somewhat old and there are much better resources on the topic, but the person whose class Im covering built her entire class on these readings and since its not my class, i cant adjust it.

While this book is seminal in my industry, I have huge issues with its author and how I’ve seen him engage with women and especially women of color online. I find the book quite full of ego that rubs me wrong

I had to pick up a class for a teacher who had a family emergency. Her entire class is based on this book so im listening to refresh

If it was my class I’d teach these topics in another way for sure

Listening to this book to stay ahead of the class I’m teaching as I’ll be giving them readings from this in a couple weeks.

It’s a seminal book in my industry, even though the man who wrote it has been somewhat problematic in recent years for minimizing voices of POC women online.

Unfortunately I don’t have an option to not teach from it otherwise I’d not use it and just teach the topics.

In true ADD fashion I have no idea where I placed the actual physical copy of the book I pre-ordered but I also ordered the audiobook so I started to listen to it on my long commute today. Somehow seems appropriate. Love his narration with occasional Jer interjections

While I enjoy this book, I assume most of my followers here will have no idea who Frank is or enjoy the kind of music he's spent years playing as the drummer for Sum 41 and now Electric Callboy - but if you have an affinity for either of those bands, you wont be surprised at how disciplined and gracious Frank is and you will enjoy his stories and his advice. I cant wait to finish it up on my next commute!

I’ve loved frank ever since I saw him at warp tour with street drum corp. I have loved his current gig with electric call boy and couldn’t wait to get this book to learn more about how his mind works. I have a long commute day one day a week where I’m in the car a couple hours each way and have devoured half of this so far in one commute.

As someone who is currently working in the area of harm reduction I think this book has been great in giving the historical context of the movement so far. Not to mention royally pissing me off at the complete lack of humanity that seems to have always been present for people who use drugs. It’s why I am doing the work and why I picked up this book

The weaving of personal narrative and stories about everyday things you take for granted is riveting, whether listening to the book or reading it

As someone who has “known” John online through vlogbrothers for years hearing/reading his level of vulnerability in these stories makes it hard to put down.

Fun first short story. I so hear this in my head in the voices of alex and David - my all time favorite doctor and … companion? Doctor? This is what I love about her character. You never quite ever figure it out

John Green and I competed in the same level of academic decathlon the same year. I was brought in by a far more intelligent group of friends

As a barely passing student I found out for the first time in my life I was actually smart.

My ribbons sit on my wall from the competition as a reminder of that anytime my brain wants to tell me otherwise.

Absolutely hysterical/super interesting to me to think both John Green and I were c level “degenerates” pulled into Academic decathlon by our more intelligent friends at the exact same period in time, I in Northern California him in Alabama. I have my ribbons framed up in my office from our competition. It was the first time I felt smart. Nice to see this event in this book.

The layout of the book where they put the commentary from the other actors in the movie is kind of just thrown into middle of paragraphs which is a little hard to read

I switched over to listening and reading which was a great treat Because the actors themselves are actually in the audiobook reading their commentary which makes it even more special. I’ll probably stick with this till the end of the book.

It’s absolutely delightful in interspersing his story with other actors in the film to get a real good sense of the entire making of the movie! I’m so excited to keep reading this movie was a seminal movie in my childhood. I wore out the VHS for sure.
