It is so much fun to sass my teenagers, who pressured me hard core into reading this, by giving them weirdly worded updates of where I’m at the book. My favorite so far has been <spoiler>Dalinar accidentally spoke a dead language, so Navani snogged him</spoiler>.

I am in love with this book. While I had a cursory understanding of many of the atrocities before picking this up (but not nearly enough - this book is thorough and relentless), hearing it described in a narrative form like this has affected me deeply, and given me a much deeper understanding and context. This will probably wind up on my favorites shelf.

I'm amazed by how relevant this book still is - they were talking about the Keystone XL pipeline on the Diane Rehm show yesterday, and the way that it violates treaties with Native peoples is part of the same pattern that happens again and again in this book.
