So far it leaves me unsure about how I feel about South African history. On one hand, it makes you understand the humanity of the people who made segregation a formal institution. On the other, knowing they were humans and thinking rationally, it makes them all the more monstrous.

Getting a bit word-weary. The romantic passages especially are a bit long-winded. Still, the book hasn't lost my interest. It's just heartbreaking to watch the perversion of purpose Rand lays out.

So I'm reading it and loving it but it's such an imposing book that it sometimes feels like I'm getting nowhere. That said, so far objectivism doesn't seem so bad, at least what I can glean about it from my reading of the main characters. Well, except that it looks to be a highly unpopular doctrine.

It's been getting harder and harder to put the book down between sessions but, luckily, I'm almost there.
