Since I’ve now started it I have no idea why I wanted to read it so badly or why I waited months for it on Libby. This is a nonfiction account of an 18th century English warship crossing the Atlantic into the Drake Passage !?!? Essentially the Donner Party on sea. Every description is one of hell!! I guess I’ll finish it but it’s v random

DNF at 26%!!! WHAt Is with all the domestic abuse in every chapter? So that doesn’t change if his name is different? Then this book is not about name entomology, but violent domestic abuse. Huge bummer.

Ope this is as far as we got for the whole trip. Will I continue listening/get the book? Unsure

I waited months and months for this book from the lib. Am I already hating it? Domestic abuse HEAVY and for what?? I did not know that was the theme.

This book got so dark so randomly with the fleeing from Russia?? Prob my least fave book the pod has done!!

Started this on a whim. I was instantly enthralled. The writing is addictive. I already understand that the point is to make us feel sympathetic towards Ansel and perhaps excuse or forgive him for murdering multiple women. I’m always most interested about the “why” when it comes to violent crimes, and this is an entire story on that. So far, it’s been very sad 😔

For once I’m hooked on a mystery novel!!

A civil war odyssey

A little overwhelmed at how long this book is. Also wondering if I read it many years ago bc I recognize the cover from our home library. Great writing. Slow-paced but in a good way.

Want to finish tomorrow to close out 2025. But at what cost? So monotone and boring. 2 of the most dramatic things (IMO) lasted for 1 page

December book club pick!!

I’m ashamed to have never heard of this time in history. The systematic erasure of Native American culture at The Carlisle Indian Industrial School. Horrible.

Fully not in the right mindset to be reading this but what a disservice it would be to stop. Painfully sad. The writing had become more beautiful as the story moves back in time and narrators change. Still crying about Ethel.
