Really enjoying this so far! I love how she's incorporated commentary on consumerism and beauty and capitalism and how women are treated so differently when it comes to finance, while also acknowledging that we can build things in a different way! I think we share a vision on how we want to age and enjoy our lives, and I'm excited to keep reading this.

I was going to try and make it through chapter six for the sake of talking about this at book club (that's about a quarter of the book), but no. I do not like this writing style or the dynamic between the MCs (or Juniper at all, tbh), and the plot seems pointless. I'm honestly not even tempted to skim ahead and see what happens. This book is just Not For Me.

They have to wrestle things out instead of talking like adults? Seriously???

I still don't understand the point of these quests? Or why two farmers who aren't trained for this are going?

I really do not like this dynamic of Mo wanting to go on adventures and Juniper wanting him to stay.

Why are we starting bar fights?? What is even happening in this book?

Are we really talking about dying and being old at THIRTY???

Not sure this book is for me. It's for a book club, so I'll keep reading, but I'm really not clicking with this writing style, and I don't love the conflict of one MC yearning for adventure and the other wanting to keep him at home. And we're only a chapter and a half in...

I'm surprised I'm already 15 percent in to this considering I've just been listening during a few drives. I know this book is super beloved, but I just have such a hard time with how hateful Nesta is and how much self loathing she possesses.

I'm listening to the audio version narrated by Juliet Stevenson, and I'm enjoying her performance a lot!! I also forgot how much I really love this book!

So this book opens when the hero's fiance, who he's been with for seven years, breaks up with him via text and blocks him so she doesn't have to discuss things with him. That is a LOT to process, and I know from personal experience there's just no way Bo is in the headspace to jump into another relationship immediately. Of course, not sure how I missed all of this in the summary?? But idk that this book is for me

Ugh, Emma is such a snob. This is a more readable book than Mansfield Park, but I don't think I'll wind up liking this book much more than I did as a high schooler.

I'm really enjoying listening to this! A lot of the things that drew me to birding also appealed to the author, and it's fun hearing some of her experiences while birding

Some of the changes to the story in this volume are throwing me off. They're not bad! I just didn't realize these wouldn't be true to the books.

I am having so much fun with this. I'm really enjoying the audio narration, and I just really love how ridiculous Emily and Rose are as academics.

Wow, this book is so relentlessly full of awful people

I'm enjoying this, but wow. The patriarchy is overwhelmingly brutal in this book.

"Fey women cannot kill, not even to defend their lives. Their natural empathy prevents it." Wow, do I hate everything about those sentences. There's been some weird gender stuff going on in this book, but that sums up the undercurrents really well.

This book is so big, and yet it feels like nothing has happened 😭

Ugh, I want to shake these characters for being idiots. And not in a good way. The Tairen Soul is too busy getting mad at everyone to properly play politics, while Ellie doesn't have much personality and doesn't want to accept how her life has changed. They're making things worse for themselves

There is still a lot of European history and French references that are lost on me, but this is way more interesting now that we've reached history I'm vaguely familiar with, in this case the reign of Louis XIV

Kind of questioning how much I really want to learn about French history 😅 I was inspired to pick this up after realizing how little I really knew about the Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars, but these first few chapters on medieval Paris are rather dry
