Chapter 2 reads so much smoother than the first one. Also crazy how the king decided to burn his own wife thinking it'd stop the plague. Would not trust him to rule over anything.

Went back to check whether I missed the content warnings but no, the audiobook has none. Oof. I knew the setting isn't an easy one, more so because it follows a slave girl, but barely prevented sexual assault wasn't what I expected.

Normally I'm not an audiobook person, but listening to this while cooking and hearing how she delivers the opening, switching back and forth between a clueless child and a terrified mother, punched me right in the gut.
