Liking this one! I really appreciate the way they took their grandparent's love story and the historical details of it, turned into fiction, and wove in traditional Korean folktales and magic. I was a bit worried when I saw how many tropes it claims to have (books get easily convoluted when authors try to do too many) but they've actually been working with the way each character's storyline impacts the plot.

I believe I started this one on the 2nd. Anyway, some aspects of the plot make me uncomfortable and like the author didn't totally think things through, or the book could have used more reworking.

I started reading this one yesterday, Sept. 29, after getting it from the library. I heard on my socials that it was a clean read, and it sounds like a fun chic-lit, so I thought I'd give it a try.
First off, it's easy and fun to read. It's made me chuckle out loud and I'm enjoying the writing.
I hope I enjoy it all the way through!

"Today, there is a strong aversion to the idea that certain actions are objectively right (or wrong), leaving even professing Christians choosing the more socially acceptable path of moral relativism: "Who can say?" But Austen disagrees... ...it is possible to know what is right and that we have the freedom to choose what is good."

"God wants us to be holy because he wants us to be whole, to be fully ourselves as he designed us to be. Sin disfigures our souls, holding us back from this wholeness, or holiness, that God desires for us. Sin also distorts the way we understand the world, preventing us from having the clear soul-vision we need to live out our purpose: to love well. Our vices are failures to love..."

Rereading this gem! I have a physical copy from the author that was a gift for beta reading book 2, and as that is being published now, I'm hoping to catch up in the series in order to beta read book 3!!

Very interesting so far! I like how the author emphasizes that discovering the strengths and weaknesses of the four temperaments is meant to help guide one to sainthood rather through understanding of the self (and of others) rather than become an excuse - "That's just who I am." A great challenge!

It pleases me that this book seems to improve upon further acquaintance. I had at first been concerned at the author's decisions to change aspects of Austen's characters, however, I think they are more themselves upon continuing reading and seeing the plot unfold a bit more - and the conflict is starting to ramp up! Wickham seems to be digging his own grave at the moment, but I hope none of the OGs commit the murder.

Conflicted by the different situations of the original Austen characters presented in this book. Some things don't quite match up what I knew about them. But I am intrigued after reading the prologue: what is Wickham up to and why does he die?

"Mr. Elliot was rational, discreet, polished - but he was not open. There was never any burst of feeling, any warmth of indignation or delight, at the evil or good of others. This, to Anne, was a decided imperfection."

I think Austen's books make good guides for dating, honestly.

Some good quotes:

Trust takes some time and practice to build (pg. 113).

We shouldn't (and can't) avoid all pain and all risk of heartbreak when looking for a spouse, but we can make sure that the level of risk aligns with the level of commitment we have. Your physical bond should develop gradually and organically alongside your intellectual, emotional, and spiritual bonds (pg. 147).

It's interesting, but this being my last Austen novel to read, I've found Anne the most relatable heroine - at least for me.
