This book has made me laugh it loud multiple times. It’s very funny in spite of dealing with topics like depression and addiction.

This book came very highly recommended by multiple people based on my interests. It’s an interesting read, but the narrator annoys me. I’m sure some people find the narrator funny and charming, but I find him grating. The audiobook narrator is reading him exactly as I think he was written so I can see why people like it.

I was apparently so excited to read this book that I bought it twice. Separate bookstores about a month apart. So here we are. So far it’s an interesting story with clunky writing.

For example:

“Unearthed remnants, such as glazed tiles and crossbow pieces, felt to Breitweiser like private messages that had waited centuries specifically for him to receive.”

This book has been painful and I don’t really like it. Matt Haig books are so hit or miss for me.

I’m really enjoying this book. I’m listening to the audiobook. The reader and vibe remind me of Here One Moment by Lianne Moriarty. The narrator is somewhat similar to Cherry. Cherry was one of my favorites, and I’ll probably re-listen to Here One Moment again.

Funny note: the narrator’s “Spanish” accent sounds like Russian. It’s adorable.

This came up on my “recommend a book like The Road” post. It is like The Road in some ways, but a little less cannibalism and A LOT more rape. I don’t really resonate with her religion. Its hollow attempt at profundity makes me roll my eyes. All that being said, the book is incredibly well-written. I think there’s a sequel. We’ll see if I decide to read it.

I hated this book and almost didn’t finish it, but then I got to part seven, which was one of the most lovely things I’ve read. I still can’t decide if it was worth it. There was a bit of “men writing women” to it, and so much sex and infidelity. If you decide to read it, know that up front.

I’m listening to the audiobook, and I absolutely love it. Every character has such a distinct voice and it’s a page turner. The premise is fascinating. A woman gets on a plane and starts predicting people’s cause and age of death. How will the people deal with this information and are the predictions going to come true?
