This whole book is sort of a pep talk for artists.

In the second chapter, Bradbury writes how his stories were rejected when he was 20 years old (boo hoo) and then he happens to mention that he took frequent long walks with Leigh Brackett - THE Leigh Brackett who was a prolific pulp fiction writer of especially sci fi and detective fiction.

Dude. If you have a world-famous author as a near-daily mentor ...

This book is well written, but golly and gosh I wish I hadn't just read "West with the Night," Beryl Markham's memoir. Circling the Sun is a fictionalized Beryl Markham biography, written in first person as Beryl Markham. In comparison, alas, I'm just not nearly as gripped. But I'll read on, at least for a while.

Kinda slow going so far. But I'll keep plodding.

I ordered Terry Pratchett's "Guards! Guards!" today. I'm feeling smug.

The pose /is/ captivating. Lyrical and nifty. She changes tense randomly, though. And point of view. For effect, I guess, but part of the effect is to confuse me.
