It's interesting, the world-building and the mystery and the sinister energy that it's giving but good heavens, for some reason, I just don't connect with either main lead...

Not a fan of ---well I don't want to spoil it (no matter if it's fake or not) but I thought we left that popular trope in 2006 through 2018...eww...

Well, it's easy to read but I'm not really liking the main character. Viven and Merlin are interesting but Susan seems like a copy-and-paste FL for a YA fantasy- She's different from other girls, perhaps an outcast, THEN she finds out that she is actually more powerful or more special than everyone else...Read and seen this way too many times but we'll see...

What is this author's obsession with bad-mouthing Americans? I'm only a little way in and anytime that an American character has appeared, there's been 1 to 3 sentences after that talking about the "bad manners" or some such of Americans. As an American, I'm okay with people making fun of my nationality but it's actually starting to become so noticeable that it's bringing down my enjoyment of the story.
