One of the forgotten delights in real books, is when the unread pages is getting smaller and smaller and you know the book is about to finish. Certainly, a lot better than 94%

Book has been extended from the library for a second time.

While not concerned about giving the book's conclusion away, the journey (as per the introduction is evident),

Will only hope that my reading speed is better. Quite possible that I will require an time extension from the library.

Avast, hunting Whales I am

Finished another rabbit warren. Went back to the beginning and read the introduction.

Book is due back next week. Must be hero readers in libraries. May need to extend two or three times

I wondered at the description where a character had microscopic wrinkles. This has led me down another rabbit hole of research.

Began reading the introduction. Armed with a better understanding of the author and his intents

Man, what a mess. Going back to what is in front of me and keeping on.

My normal read of Science Fiction/Fantasy spend the first part of their read setting up their universe.

My understanding of a whaling town set up in horse and carriage days feels as strange and needs to be understood better.

Initial thoughts are favourable. While I don't know if cannibals still roam as sailors around the seaports of America it may have been possible

I was warned, that Herman likes to keep a moment alive and cover all angles of that moment. Current moment since page 2 is why a person would like the sea.

I never understood why people like to highlight parts of a book. Yet, now I find out why.

"for my part, I abominate all honorable respectable toils, trials, and tribulations of every kind whatsoever."

Well off to work I go.....

Not getting into this as easily as hoped.

Wanted to watch the TV series as I had given it up after a few episodes.

May skip both while I search for another read

Most of my comments (on first finishing the book), much to my horror (:P) had been placed the authors sections (spoilers) at the book ends.

Matthew Reilly is my 4.5 star rating author. Who delivers thrilling climatic moments quite a few times in his novels, delivers a historic novel, in which we (general population) know something about.

I will leave that style as a question.

A memorable book

Finding it a bit of a slog. Repetition of plot. While it is what I signed up for, I am liking this characters, it is still a slog.
