I got this book for free, which is great because it's awful. Anecdotal 'evidence' and giving people an excuse for gaining weight. Here's the truth: If you gained weight, you eat too many calories for the amount you expend. Period.

This book should be called "Average Douchey Frat Guy." Not well written, either, which makes it doubly annoying. Probably more amusing if you've had a drink or two, or haven't actually met guys like this. They're not as funny as they think they are.

Okay, this guy has a problem. If we include hardly mentioned characters, 4/8 women mentioned, even in passing, in this book have been raped. WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL T.C BOYLE? Is this the only danger or tragedy that can face a woman? Three of the women were solely brought up to describe their rape. I think at least two of them were superfluous and he could have used something else.

Just finished part one, and I'm just gonna say it: This guy writes about rape too much. Literally, there have been two instances of rape being mentioned at this point (characters ONLY brought up for their tragic stories, btw) and now, a case where a main character is raped.

It's off-putting, and not in a "Face-reality" way, in a "man trying to make women tragic" way. Souring the rest of the book for me.

Just got the whole thing so I could read it in one go. It's very good sci-fi. Sucks you in, different parts from different perspectives.

Finally hit part 2. This book is slow-going for me, it's not my usual genre and I don't particularly like the writing style.

This book is not great. I am really glad I got it for free. World building is slow and confusing, chapters are short and constantly switching perspectives. The author is good at describing characters, but needs to build skill in other areas.
