Started reading, first thoughts are the writing styles strikes me as a tad bit choppy and has this odd way of telling us things. Like she asks for a cig, and then he says, to summarise, she always has one on her. But it sounds like he’s telling the readers this fact that he knows about her. Like, no one speaks like that 😂😂 it’s a little awkward, but it’s early pages so I’m not knocking it.

I’m sorry—I have to say it again: the romance in this is woefully underbaked, which is amazing.

Miss girl kisses one guy and then goes on a date with another? Aight… (I’m also waiting for the importance of her annoying black cat to be revealed)

This lady and her stupid cats 🙄🙄 also the progression in this book is wild.

A kiss? Fr? Where was the build up? Where was the tension? Where was the getting to know each other? Where was—just everything?!Despite being over halfway through, this kiss just felt so undeserved and underdeveloped. The author saw how many pages in she was, and was like aight! Kiss tiiiimmmeeee!

Oh hell naw—now she’s admitting she has feelings? (Or beginning to, to quote her verbatim) it’s one thing when you as the reader see that they’re beginning to like the ML, but for the narrator to admit it? Nuh-uh! 😩😩 but like, also? They’ve barely interacted??? I kid you not, halfway through, they’ve only spoken like at least five times! Diabolical! Ten at most and I’m being kind!

Hahhhh… now she’s catching feelings—for whatever reason. She doesn’t even know the man 🫩🫩

Another thing to add to the things I don’t like about this book: older woman, younger man (I had a feeling he was but oh well)

I also hate when a trait is told rather than show. FL has just TOLD us her sister has a way with making people see her reason (not summarise) I read the sister’s whole speech to convince ML to ion know do smth. Like, what about it was convincing???? Mans just folded like a chairrrrrrr

Why is everyone (the two sisters) making things MLs fault. FL clearly knew smth was up with the shop, and yet she took it. That’s on her. But now they wanna be like ‘aFtEr aLl yOu pUT hEr tHroUgh’ puh-lease 🙄🙄 (also when does this book get interesting? I’m struggling here)

Woman, you are thirty five. No one told you to take the offer, but you did, knowing that the place was shady. It’s no one’s fault but yours, but now you wanna put the blame on someone else? Miss girl? I had no particular feelings for the FL, she was just meh. Now she’s starting to annoy me. For cats yk. And when ML’s (?) sister does smth to endanger u and ur cats as well what u gonna do? Smh

This the dumbest thing I ever heard—Miss girl?! Fr? I can’t even be asked to put down the stupidity of FL rn 🫩🫩 the thought process is just dumb, okay?

So far this book is putting your girl to sleep 😴 also the two leads have no chemistry 😔😔

Hahhhh…here comes either a love triangle or the villain (or just jerk) who the author is gonna try and make seem unsuspecting but is actually sorta behind everything or just a part of it 🙄🙄

Right, of course, the prettier sister is also the younger sister! Shoulda seen that coming 🙄🙄

Here we go 🙄🙄 FL is plain, but she has a sister who is prettier, more outgoing, and probably more talented, and people probably like her no matter what. I say this dynamic is a curse. What is the deal with making them either match in beauty, or the FL prettier? Is it taboo in the writing world? Is it to be more relatable? Ion know, all I know it’s a pet peeve of mine.

I hate to sound shallow, but she’s thirty five! Way out of my age range/limit. I shall, however, press on!

Let’s get stuck into another book! This is my second to last book of my monthly quota. I’ve read one other of the author’s books, and it was decent. Here’s hoping this one’s the same (or better!)

KNEW THAT WAS GONNA HAPPEN! CUE THE MISUNDERSTANDING PPL! FL thinks ML has slept with someone, and ML thinks FL has done the same (with Finn) it’s ML’s fault cos he didn’t wanna talk to her, so he put a damn sock on his doorknob, and so she had nowhere to sleep. Finn let her crash in his room whilst he was elsewhere. Come morning? You guessed it: a big ol’ misunderstanding 😩😩

Less than a hundred pages left…she’s basically over her childhood crush. She’ll probably find out about ML. What’s next I wonder? Third act drama 🫩🫩 I hope not. Unless it’s done well. Then I won’t mind tbh.

Oop—she’s gonna kiss ML and this is where she’s gonna find out he was her first kiss!!

lol she just told ML about her first kiss (with him obv but she doesn’t know that) and now he’s just like damn. Cos he didn’t know he was her first kiss ☠️☠️I mean it’s so obvious it wasn’t Finn. He stood her up and then ML came to the rescue.

Miss Girl, give up the schtick. You ain’t like Finn. Don’t kid yourself.
