I got tired of the persistent emphasis on sex in these stories.

The second half of the book, which contains actual sermons of McCheyne, is much better than the first half, although still somewhat laborious to read due to the language and grammar of such books written so long ago.

The short devotional chapters are mainly targeting people who are desperate or discouraged or hopeless.
